Training & Outfitting for the Sport of Carriage Driving
Andy's Clinic Bio

You may use the text below in advertising or for articles to promote your clinic or event featuring Andy Marcoux.

Andy Marcoux has been professionally training and driving carriage horses of all breeds and descriptions for over 15 years.  He received a degree in Equine Industries from The Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts in 1993.  Since that time Andy has held positions as coachman and trainer throughout the United States.  In 1997 Andy returned to Massachusetts and shortly after created Coachman’s Delight, inc.; “Training and Outfitting for the Sport of Carriage Driving”.  With a 2,000 square foot retail location in Medway, MA. Andy is able to provide not only the instructional know how, but also some of the best, field tested equipment for the sport of carriage driving.

Andy is a recognized judge for The American Driving Society for the sport of Combined Driving.  He is an evaluator for The Carriage Association of America's Carriage Driver Proficiency Program, a program that he helped develop to bring quantifiable standards in carriage driving to the United States.  Andy also holds the highest level of certificate available from The British Driving Society.  His competitive experience includes combined driving singles and pairs through advanced level.  In pleasure driving shows Andy has competed with singles, pairs, tandem and four-in-hands including the Coaching divisions.   He has even been spotted sounding the coach horn on occasion.  Andy also has competed in ridden dressage to first level.  Andy's writing on carriage driving, and horse training can be found in each issue of The Carriage Driving Digest, a nationally distributed magazine devoted to horse and carriage driving.

Andy’s training principals are based in the fundamentals of dressage, with safety and the longevity of the horse in mind.  “I feel strongly that the horse must learn the skills we ask of them through communication, rather than being forced into an act.”  His approach is strait forward, with no tricks, gimmicks, or secrets.  Clinic participants always appreciate Andy's ability to meet and teach each student directly to their level of skill from the very novice, to the very advanced.

Andy has students from the age of 9, to an un-disclosed number of years of wisdom and experience.  Some are recreational drivers who want to be safe and conscientious, enjoying carriage driving at it’s most elemental. Other students are more competitive in spirit, who have sought Andy out to advance their skills needed to achieve success.  “In all of my instruction, I challenge my students to step just beyond what they think they can do, while maintaining focus on the joy of being with horses.”

In the setting of a clinic you can see Andy’s passion for horsemanship and teaching come to life.  Andy clearly explains the “why” behind the “how” of each element of training and driving horses to students and auditors alike.  His honesty, enthusiasm and constant interjections of humor make for a day filled with smiles.  “If we are not having fun, we are probably doing something wrong.”
