Description
Ground driving and long lining are very similar activities. In ground driving you walk along behind the horse as you direct his movement through the reins. When long lining, the horse works around the trainer on a circle similar to longeing.
The advantage to long lining is that you can work the horse effectively at the walk, trot, and canter. That makes it an excellent skill for improving the horse’s way of going. There are long lining exercises to improve balance, flexibility, engagement and just about any other aspect of the horse’s movements.
As with any skill with such potential, long lining takes some time to learn. If you already know how to ground drive your horse, you’re well ahead of the game!
