Thanks so much for the lesson, Andy. I was able to practice with Kelsey yesterday and today. I was so excited after our session yesterday, I sent you an email to tell you about it. So if you haven’t seen it already, you might check your emails. I was in a hurry and very quickly looked at this lesson page to make sure I could open the video and didn’t notice the comment box.
She did really well today, too. I stayed in the round pen again. (it’s a big 60′ round pen) I might do that for a while until I’m more confident with what I’m doing. She broke into a trot just after we started. I asked her to walk and she did…no argument. She walked the rest of the time…nice and relaxed, lots of licking and chewing, just like yesterday. I concentrated on just bending and straightening my elbows (slowly) for the lengthening and to bring her back. She didn’t fuss when I shortened the reins and her contact with the bit stayed the same. In other words, I felt the same amount of weight in my hands whether the reins were shorter or longer. I’m guessing that means she’s seeking the bit??? And again…not to get greedy…our session only lasted about 30 mins. She was doing great, so I told her she was a super star and put her away.
Also, can I save this video like the other lessons, or can I only view it here? Just wondering….
Hey there Teri,
I’m so pleased to hear of your success! I did read the first e-mail as well. I just got taken away from it when I was in the middle of my reply. I think your adaptation of setting yourself up for success was a great one.
Yes! on “seeking the bit”! I live reading something like this because you’re not only addressing an issue you’ve had, but you’re building more learning and skills while you’re at it. That makes it all so worth while.
Keep up the good work!
Sorry about forgetting to include the download link. It’s under the video now.
Thanks Andy! And thanks for the link.
