Description
We’ve all endured a lifetime of parents, teachers and coaches telling us to improve our posture. But, the way most of have been told to do that doesn’t really improve our posture at all. Add to that, the only benefit of improving our posture was less nagging from the aforementioned stalwarts of “proper posture”.
This lesson plan isn’t created to give you better posture because it looks good on the carriage*. It’s about training your body to carry itself in a more advantageous position.
Improving how your body carries itself will improve your communication with your horse. You’ll also gain greater leverage in your position, which will lead to greater stability as you drive or ride.
That means that your body can spend less effort maintaining balance and position, and more time actually communicating with your horse. The over all result is that better position equals better reinsmanship, and a better horse.
Sustainable Muscle Memory
You may have noticed that I mentioned “how your body carries itself“ several times in this writing. That’s because these exercises are designed to get your body to maintain a better driving position, instead of having to cognitively remind yourself to “fix” your posture.
One of the most valuable pieces of coaching I ever received was to work on my body position away from the horses. I was told that I was wasting my time by working on my own body position when I was riding or driving the horses.
P.S. ~ When you do these exercises, you’ll look a heck of a lot better on the carriage!
P.P.S. ~ Your horse will also look better because of the improved communication you’ll share!
